James, who has been diagnosed with autism, struggles to communicate verbally and is sensitive to physical contact. In fact, he finds it difficult to engage with his family members through eye contact. Despite these challenges, James is able to connect visually with his loyal companion Mahe. Mahe, the Labrador, is always by James’ side, providing him with a sense of security and comfort. Trained to soothe James in moments of distress, Mahe plays a crucial role in helping James navigate situations that may trigger anxiety. The bond between James and his four-legged friend is truly remarkable in its ability to support and protect him.

Louise Goossens, from Assistance Dogs New Zealand, shared a heartwarming story about James, who required an MRI due to his seizures. During his hospital visit, his loyal companion Mahe was by his side, providing comfort and support. While James was unconscious during the procedure, Mahe stayed close, gently touching his face to ensure his well-being. The loving Labrador once again showed his dedication to protecting his human friend, proving that their bond is truly special.
